Advantage “iXsystems Unveils Groundbreaking HCI Appliance with TrueNAS Development – Gaining the CRN Advantage”

“We’re Giving Away Our Software for FREE! Customers Pay Partners for Turnkey TrueNAS HCI Appliances!”
IXsystems, the open-source developer behind the TrueNAS network-attached software, has officially launched its first hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI) appliances based on the open-source TrueNAS Scale. According to Mario Blandini, the company’s vice president of marketing, TrueNAS Scale offers scale-out capabilities for SMB clustering, as well as support for running Linux applications through Docker containers, Kubernetes, KVM, and scale-out OpenZFS storage. Blandini also emphasizes that NAS has evolved to become more than just “network-attached storage” – it’s now all about “network application storage.”
In addition to four rounds of Q&A testing, IXsystems has also seen over 20,000 downloads since TrueNAS Scale’s open-source launch on February 22. Blandini explains that customers can use the software for FREE with no limitations, giving them the opportunity to test out HCI in their own labs. To generate revenue, the company offers fully supported hardware platforms that customers can purchase. This business model also allows channel partners to profit from selling the hardware HCI appliances. As Blandini points out, IXsystems has a loyal channel network, with 40% of the Fortune 500 businesses as their customers.
Chris Poer, director of cloud and IT security at Techgardens, a solution provider that has been working with IXsystems for eight years, shares his excitement as TrueNAS partners. Poer highlights the fact that TrueNAS Scale now offers compute and storage in a single architecture that can scale up to hundreds of petabytes. He also praises the ability for customers to deploy a single-box HCI, which combines VMware for compute, TrueNAS for storage, and Veeam for backup. While TrueNAS Scale may not offer all the capabilities of VMware, it still opens up opportunities for IXsystems in a market worth millions of dollars. As Poer adds, the company has proven to be a reliable and supportive partner, with the ability to offer enterprise-grade products while still providing assistance when needed.
